The president of the Alicante Provincial Council, Toni Pérez, participated once again in the symbolic cutting of the Albatera Colar Breva, marking the start of the harvest campaign. He reaffirmed the institutional commitment to “this fruit that is a symbol of health, proximity, closeness, legacy, and history” and once again called for water to irrigate the fields of the Vega Baja.
“It is great news to know that more and more producers are participating in the art of associating to do things better and continue progressing,” stated Toni Pérez, who highlighted the work of farmers “as there is no better human activity than that of those dedicated to producing and caring for the land to give the best to society as a whole”.
Likewise, the Alicante leader emphasized that the Albatera breva “is a great ambassador for our land, as it is marketed both in the national and international markets,” and it is “health, proximity, closeness, legacy, and history”.
“It is a source of pride to know that this land produces a marvel like the Albatera breva,” highlighted Toni Pérez, who, along with the deputy for Water Cycle and mayor of Albatera, Ana Serna, called for water so that “this land continues to be the main producer of breva figs in Spain”.
The event also included the presence of the vice-president of the Association of Producers of the Albatera Breva, Carlos Vicente, this year's godmother, chef Aurora Torres, and provincial deputies Antonio Bernabeu, Carmen Selles, and Juan de Dios Navarro, as well as producers, irrigators, and other authorities.
The president praised the properties of the breva fig and encouraged society to consume it, which is the objective of the VIII Gastronomic Days of the Breva being held this weekend in Albatera.
Finally, Toni Pérez reiterated the provincial institution's commitment to the Association of Producers of the Albatera Breva, with which it has been collaborating since its establishment in 2012. In this regard, the provincial aid provided this year for the dissemination and promotion of this product amounts to 9,000 euros, in addition to developing various initiatives aimed at promoting it at meetings, fairs, and events such as the International Fruit and Vegetable Fair Fruit Attraction, which the Provincial Council attends annually.
