This concert is part of the program A Journey through Valencian and European Opera, a proposal that combines international repertoire with the promotion of the autochthonous legacy. The program establishes a dialogue between great figures of European opera such as Giuseppe Verdi, Georges Bizet, and Ruggero Leoncavallo, and Valencian lyrical production, aiming to place it on the same level of cultural value.
This musical journey also serves to recover and highlight less frequently performed works that are essential for understanding Valencian sound identity. The concert includes prominent pieces from the Valencian repertoire, such as El Triomf de Tirant by Amand Blanquer, a work that transforms Joanot Martorell's literary myth into contemporary opera.
Music by Ruperto Chapí, including La Bruja, will also be performed, as well as excerpts from Vinatea by Matilde Salvador, featuring the passage Ecce panis angelorum, full of mystical sensibility. The program also revives the international projection of Josep Melchor Gomis, who triumphed in 19th-century Paris, and concludes with Maror by Manuel Palau, a work rooted in popular traditions.
The concert will be directed by assistant conductor Mario Torres Mas and will feature piano accompaniment by Daniel Ruiz de Cenzano. After the stop in Peñíscola, the tour will continue on April 17 in Vilamarxant and on April 19 in Benimodo, consolidating a proposal that aims to bring opera closer to various Valencian municipalities.
The Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana, dependent on the Institut Valencià de Cultura, is one of the leading choral ensembles. Founded in 1987 as the Cor de València, it is currently the resident choir of the Palau de les Arts and performs extensively in auditoriums throughout Spain.
