The event brings together residents and visitors throughout the weekend to celebrate the local production of this emblematic fruit. The leader attended the ceremony alongside the mayor of La Salzadella, Cristóbal Segarra, and the provincial vice-president of Tourism, Andrés Martínez, highlighting the role of the agricultural sector in the municipality's identity and economic projection. The fair fills the streets with different varieties of cherries grown in the area, consolidating its importance as a showcase for local produce.
During her speech, Barrachina highlighted the effort of farmers and the tradition that sustains this crop generation after generation. She stated that it is a product of great value for the local economy and the municipality's culture. Furthermore, she noted: “A high-quality, local product that is made possible each year thanks to the effort of farmers”.
The president insisted on the connection between the municipality and this crop, stating: “to speak of La Salzadella is to speak of cherries”. She also underscored the deep-rootedness of this fruit as an essential part of the local identity and its prestige both within and outside the province.
Barrachina championed the agro-food richness of the province and the value of local products. In this regard, she pointed out: “In the province of Castellón, we can boast an exceptional pantry, based on zero-kilometer products. And cherries are a prime example of that excellence”.
The fair not only offers fresh cherries and related products for sale but also gastronomic and cultural activities that reinforce the link between tradition and the local economy. The president highlighted its social impact by stating: “this event is not only a showcase for our excellent cherries but also a celebration of the tradition and effort of our neighbors”.
The Diputación of Castellón reaffirms its commitment to such initiatives due to their impact on promoting the territory and strengthening the primary sector. Barrachina defended the importance of supporting local producers and events with these words: “From the provincial institution, we firmly support these types of events, as they provide an opportunity for visitors from within and outside our province to discover the richness and variety of our cherries, and for our producers to establish ties that strengthen the sector”.
Finally, she concluded by highlighting the strategic value of agriculture for the province's economic and social future: “betting on our own is supporting the territory, the local economy, and the future of agriculture”.
