The Vinaròs City Council Plenary has given the green light to the cost structure, an essential step for the upcoming tender of the new public service contract for urban waste collection and transport, as well as the washing and cleaning of municipal containers. This contract, budgeted at 23.5 million euros, has generated significant political debate in the town.
Currently, the company Acciona Servicios Urbanos SL continues to provide the service, despite its contract expiring in November 2023 and its extension ending on April 30, 2024. Since then, the company has continued to operate under the same conditions, awaiting the new award.
“"At some point, you are not telling the truth. In two years and three months, you have done nothing to tender this contract."
Socialist Councillor Carmen Morellà has sharply criticized the management of the governing team (PP, PVI, and VOX), noting that this is the fourth time the issue has been brought to the plenary in over two years of mandate. Morellà recalled that in November 2023, when the PSOE and PVI governed, the current mayor, María Dolores Miralles, received the economic viability study without responding. She also accused the local executive of increasing tax pressure, with 2,375,000 euros more in revenue.
“"On this matter, you have no credibility. The contract expired in October 2023, and for eight and a half years, nothing was done, nor was a cost structure debated."
For his part, the Councillor of Finance, Lluís Gandia, defended the current government's actions, reproaching the socialists for allowing the contract to expire after eight years in power. Gandia assured that the current governing team has carried out the necessary work and that the new cost structure will allow for savings of three million euros for the residents of Vinaròs.
