“"From the Generalitat, we maintain a firm commitment to our natural heritage, its maintenance and conservation. Therefore, our action is divided into two vital fronts: ordinary management, focused on the constant maintenance of firebreak areas, and extraordinary response to emergencies, with the restoration of forest tracks that suffered damage during the DANA of October-November 2024, which also affected many areas of Castellón."

The Generalitat has allocated over 2.2 million euros to maintenance work on firebreak areas and forest infrastructures in the Sant Mateu-Vall d'Alba demarcation, benefiting 20 municipalities across four regions of Castellón province.
The third vice president and minister of Environment, Infrastructures, Territory and Recovery, visited Vall d’Alba to oversee the maintenance work being carried out on firebreak areas and infrastructures of the General Directorate for Forest Fire Prevention. These actions, combining ordinary and extraordinary measures, represent a total investment of over 2.2 million euros and impact 20 municipalities in the regions of Els Ports, El Baix Maestrat, La Plana Alta, and L’Alcalatén.
Recovery work has been completed on more than 1,700 meters of three forest tracks that were damaged by the DANA weather event of 2024. These actions are part of the strategy for the recovery of affected forest infrastructures, with the aim of guaranteeing access for firefighting resources and strengthening fire prevention. In parallel, work has been carried out on the firebreak areas of the Sant Mateu-Vall d’Alba demarcation, which are considered a key reinforcement in fire prevention and in the protection of the natural environment and the population.
The execution of this investment has been carried out by the public company Vaersa in collaboration with Tragsa, and has allowed intervention in 651 hectares. Among the areas where significant action has been taken are the mountains of Herbeset, Torre Enguaita, and Vallivana in Morella, in Sierra Simona in Castellfort, in the mountain of Carrascals de les Boltes in Atzeneta del Maestrat, or in the mountain of Mas de Comos and Coll de la Palmera in les Coves de Vinromà.
The DANA of October and November 2024 caused significant damage to the forest network of the Valencian Community, affecting 2,755 kilometers of forest tracks, over 640,000 hectares of forest, as well as ten extinguishing depots and two forest observatories. Faced with this situation, the Generalitat immediately began recovery work to ensure the operability of these strategic infrastructures.
The set of these actions in the Valencian Community represents a global investment of 93 million euros, aimed at guaranteeing safety and accessibility in forest areas of high environmental value, in addition to strengthening fire prevention capacity. The work carried out in the provinces of Valencia and Castellón allowed all tracks to be passable last year, and it is expected that they will be fully completed this summer.
