Agustín Cerdá Ferrer, born in Benicarló in 1953, has been designated by the Benicarló City Council as the custodian for the 2026 patron saint festivals. Cerdá will be responsible for delivering the inaugural address, which will mark the official start of the celebrations on August 22nd.
The son of a farming family, Cerdá began his involvement with the cooperative movement in 1970 at the Sant Isidre Agricultural Cooperative. Six years later, he became a founding member and general director of Caixa Benicarló, an entity he led for forty years until his retirement in 2016, driving its expansion and consolidating a model based on cooperative values.
With over forty-five years dedicated to cooperativism, Cerdá has stood out for his self-taught vocation and his advocacy for shared work as a driver of progress. Beyond his professional career, he has maintained significant involvement in Benicarló's social and cultural life, supporting numerous initiatives through his leadership at Caixa Benicarló and participating in various organizations.
He is the author of the book ‘Paraules de Festa Major a Benicarló’ and has been part of the Fundació Caixa Benicarló and the Fundació Compte Fibla, among other civic and social collaborations. In 2011, he received a distinction as a prominent figure in Benicarló's social sphere.
