Citizens of the Vall de Cofrents have mobilized to stop the construction of a large-scale landfill in the municipality of Zarra, a proposal that has generated strong social rejection in the region.

On June 14, 2026, the Ayora House of Culture hosted a meeting convened by the Naturalist Association of Ayora and the Valley. Residents from towns such as Jarafuel, Teresa de Cofrentes, Zarra, and Ayora attended the event, along with representatives of the foreign community living in the area.
The main objective of the meeting was the establishment of the Platform against the Zarra landfill. The promoters of this initiative have agreed to request urgent meetings with local political party executives to convey their firm opposition to the project and ask for their involvement to prevent it.
The platform warns that the facility would pose a threat to air and water quality, degrading the region's natural heritage. Residents recall that, 24 years ago, the territory successfully mobilized against a similar proposal in the Las Hoyas de Caballero area.
