A magnitude 3 earthquake shook Vall d'Albaida in the early hours of this Monday, being widely felt in several towns in the region. The seismic movement was registered in Vallada, where numerous residents perceived the tremor during the night.
Specifically, it was felt in the municipalities of Agres, Aielo de Malferit, Ontinyent (including urbanizations such as El Pilar, Les Aigües, and Helios), Albaida, Alfarrasí, Vallada, Agullent, Alfafara, Bocairent, El Palomar, and L'Olleria.
According to available data, the earthquake occurred at 01:52 AM, local time, with a depth of 3 kilometers. The maximum intensity recorded was level III, which explains why it was felt in various nearby areas.
Minutes later, on Monday morning, after 2 AM, a second earthquake was registered in the same region, specifically in Ontinyent, a neighboring town to Vallada. This new seismic movement had a magnitude of 1.5 and a depth of 2 kilometers.
Unlike the first, this second earthquake was not perceived by the population, despite occurring very close to the previous epicenter. The proximity between both events indicates localized seismic activity in the area during the early morning.
Both earthquakes were registered within a very short time interval, which caused concern among some residents who did feel the first tremor. However, no material or personal damage has been reported.
Vall d'Albaida is a region where low-intensity seismic movements are occasionally detected, such as those registered this morning between Vallada and Ontinyent, two very close municipalities in the interior of the province of Valencia.
