The National Police have arrested a 42-year-old man following a ram-raid robbery at a tobacco shop in Dénia, where the perpetrators rammed a police car and fled along the AP-7 until crashing in Xeresa.

The incident occurred in the early hours of March 23rd, when the criminals used a stolen vehicle to smash into the premises and steal nearly 1,200 packs of cigarettes. The value of the loot amounts to 7,500 euros, while the material damage to the shop exceeds 50,000 euros.
During the intervention, officers attempted to intercept the suspects, but they rammed the police vehicle, rendering it unusable. One of the thieves even pointed a firearm at the officers before fleeing in a high-end car that had also been stolen previously.
The chase continued along the AP-7, where the fugitives drove in the wrong direction, endangering other road users. Eventually, the vehicle crashed near Xeresa. Although the occupants managed to escape, the police located the car containing some of the stolen tobacco and documentation that helped identify the detainee.
The detainee has been brought before the duty courts in Dénia, charged with several crimes, including robbery with force and membership of a criminal group. The investigation remains open to locate the rest of those involved in the assault.
