The General Assembly of the European Free Alliance (EFA) kicked off today in Gandia, gathering political representatives from various European peoples and nations to discuss the continent's challenges.

The city of Gandia is becoming the main meeting point for progressive Europeanism this weekend with the celebration of the General Assembly of the European Free Alliance (EFA). The event began this morning with the participation of political representatives from various European nations.
The inaugural session was moderated by Alícia Izquierdo, regional spokesperson for Compromís in Safor-Valldigna and member of the European Committee of the Regions. The debate focused on Europe's current challenges and the role of the political forces within the EFA.

"It is an honor that Gandia is hosting a European meeting of this importance, at a time when democratic values, the defense of social rights, and cooperation between peoples must be reinforced against the rise of hate speech and the far-right."

Izquierdo highlighted that the EFA General Assembly "puts Gandia on the European political map and projects an image of an open, diverse city committed to the values of peace, social justice, and democracy".
The European Free Alliance brings together progressive political formations from different territories on the continent and maintains a joint parliamentary group with the Greens in the European Parliament. For two days, Gandia will host debates and working sessions on key European challenges, including the defense of democracy, the ecological transition, social rights, and peacebuilding.
Compromís has invited citizens to participate this afternoon, at 7 PM, in the Plaça de l’Escola Pia, in the public event "United for Peace / Unim-nos per la Pau". The event will bring together prominent European political figures to advocate for a Europe based on coexistence, solidarity, and the rights of peoples. Participants include Ana Miranda (BNG), Lynn Boylan (Sinn Féin), Diana Riba (ERC), representatives from Plaid Cymru, Carmen Smith, Mario Zubiaga (EH Bildu), as well as MEP and Compromís spokesperson, Vicent Marzà and Joan Baldoví, respectively, and Lorena López de Lacalle, president of the European Free Alliance.
