Holly, an American citizen residing in Gandia (Safor) for the past four years, is captivating social media platforms with her Valencian language learning journey. Her initiative has sparked significant interest, and her follower count continues to grow.
"I've been living in Gandia for four years, in a place where Valencian is spoken, so I thought the language was very important and I wanted to try it," expresses Holly. She only started studying the language at the Official School of Languages in the capital of La Safor a month ago, but she is already showing considerable progress through her digital platforms.
“"The only phrase I knew for a long time was: fem foc o fugim (let's make fire or let's flee)"
Thanks to this Instagram initiative, she has already amassed over 16,000 followers, a number that continues to rise. Additionally, she uses resources like regional television to enhance her learning, with many people recommending the series L'Alqueria Blanca.
Holly has a clear perspective on the importance of cultural roots: "The United States is a good example of what can happen to a country and a culture if it loses its roots, its connection to tradition and values," she concludes. Her consistency, effort, and appreciation for Valencian are the keys behind her social media success.
