The events occurred on Wednesday, April 29, around 5:45 PM, when an unusual surge in follower count was detected. After analyzing the new profiles, it was confirmed that they exhibited characteristics clearly associated with fake accounts or bots.
Given this situation, at 6:00 PM, a formal communication was sent to Instagram's help service, alerting them that the account had registered an increase of over 15,000 followers in just a few hours, without any action by the profile owner to justify such growth. A review of the account, removal of detected fake followers, and recommendations for profile protection were requested.
By approximately 7:15 PM, the increase in followers had stopped, reinforcing the hypothesis of a bot attack or spam action, which aims to harm the affected account's reputation and credibility. The mayor has reported the situation to the National Police to identify those responsible.
“"It is irresponsible to make partisan use of these types of situations that many public figures suffer. Instead of defending the figure of their city's mayor, they choose to launch accusations without proof."
These incidents coincide with an attempt to impersonate the mayor on Facebook, which is also being considered for reporting to the authorities. An Interior Government councilor has expressed regret over the events and criticized the attitude of a local political party, noting that they have entered a dynamic of tension and spreading misinformation that does not contribute to public debate.
