The headquarters of this service will be located in the Tossal building. The initiative aims to provide support, guidance, and accompaniment to individuals who experience discrimination or violence due to their sexual orientation, identity, or gender expression. The Councilor for Equality, Diversity, and LGTBI, Maribel Codina, emphasized that "the defense of diversity is not just a statement of intent, but an institutional responsibility. We work so that all people can live with freedom, dignity, and security, without fear of being who they are".
The new service intends to ensure that no one in Gandia faces situations of discrimination, harassment, threats, or LGTBIphobic aggression alone. The office will assist both direct victims and those who have suffered any conduct motivated by rejection of affective-sexual or gender diversity, including cases based on a perception or assumption about the victim's identity.
Codina recalled that, despite social and legislative advances, "acts of aggression and discriminatory behaviors that cannot be normalized or made invisible" continue to occur. Therefore, she advocated for public administrations to act decisively and provide specific resources for the protection and assistance of affected individuals.
Among the office's functions are advising on rights, providing information on available resources, and offering comprehensive support. It will also facilitate coordination with municipal departments, security forces, health services, psychological and legal support resources, and victim assistance offices of the Generalitat Valenciana.
Users will receive guidance on key aspects for investigating incidents, such as preserving evidence, identifying witnesses, and the importance of reflecting the LGTBIphobic component in complaints for proper assessment and prosecution.
Services will be provided by appointment, which can be requested via email at [citasigu@gmail.com](mailto:citasigu@gmail.com) or by calling 962 95 95 28.
The launch of this office is part of the strategy of the Department of Equality and Diversity to move towards a more inclusive city. In this context, the municipal official recalled awareness-raising, educational, and visibility actions, such as Gandia Pride, an event that has helped position the city as a benchmark for diversity.
