The city of Gandia will increase its taxi fleet to 41 vehicles starting in June, including seven adapted units, to improve urban mobility and connectivity to essential services.

Starting next June, getting around Gandia will be more agile thanks to the awarding of seven new taxi licenses. This measure brings the total fleet to 41 vehicles, a significant increase considering that just two years ago the service had 27 operational licenses.
This reinforcement not only seeks to reduce waiting times but also to ensure accessibility for all citizens. The city will go from having a single adapted vehicle to having seven taxis prepared for people with reduced mobility, a key advance in inclusion.

"We want to offer a better response to urban displacements, reinforce mobility on the beach, and improve connections with essential services such as the hospital or the courts, as well as with the La Safor region."

With a population of nearly 82,000 inhabitants, the ratio will be one taxi per every 2,000 residents. This figure is fundamental to cope with the influx of visitors during the summer season.
The awarding of licenses was resolved through a public tender to which 24 offers were submitted. Factors such as professional experience and, notably, the commitment to ecological or zero-emission vehicles were prioritized in the evaluation. Economically, the operation represents an income of approximately 400,000 euros for municipal coffers, exceeding the initial starting price.
In parallel, and to ensure there are qualified professionals behind the wheel, tomorrow the registration period opens for the qualification exam. Applicants must pass a theoretical test on local regulations and street maps, in addition to meeting background and driving license requirements.
