The Ducal Palace of Gandia will commence restoration works valued at over 1.3 million euros in mid-June, funded by the 2% Cultural Program.

The Ducal Palace of Gandia will face a new phase of heritage conservation this summer with the start of restoration works valued at over €1.3 million. The project, funded through the 2% Cultural Program by the Ministries of Transport and Housing, is expected to begin in mid-June and will have an execution period of nine months.
The contract signing between the mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Prieto, and the manager of the awarded company took place in the building's own Neo-Gothic Chapel. Representatives from the Palau Ducal Foundation, municipal technicians, and officials from various areas related to the project also attended the event.
The intervention will primarily focus on the staircase of the Patio de Armas, which has suffered water leaks that have deteriorated structural wooden elements and parts of the staircase itself. Additionally, structures and pavements in areas such as the Salón de Coronas and the Neo-Gothic Chapel will be reinforced, with cleaning of paintings and conservation treatments against humidity also being carried out. The project also includes improvements to the rear courtyard to enhance its visibility and renew the pavement.
During the ceremony, Prieto highlighted the symbolism of the chosen location for the signing. “We wanted this event to take place in a space that symbolizes two major stages of the Ducal Palace, the 16th and 19th centuries, so that now, in the 21st century, a fundamental part of this heritage can regain the splendor and dignity it deserves”.
The mayor also emphasized the importance of heritage as an element of identity and development for the city. “We Gandians have many reasons to be proud of who we are, with a history that we have known how to preserve and dignify,” he stated. He also wished to underscore the tourist appeal of the Ducal Palace, which received 57,000 visitors in 2025 and over 21,200 so far in 2026.
For her part, the Councilor for Heritage, Alícia Izquierdo, remarked that “we are not just talking about architectural rehabilitation, but a clear commitment to preserving our history and collective identity.” The councilor added that the "much-anticipated" works could be completed during the spring of next year.
The manager of the awarded company, Víctor Tormo, assured that the project will involve professionals specialized in heritage restoration and that the work will be carried out "with the utmost rigor, respect, and specialization".
