The Socialist Municipal Group of Gandia City Council presented a manifesto at the council meeting held today, in support of the training cycles at the Veles e Vents institutes in El Grau and Maria Enríquez in the city, and in defense of public and quality Vocational Training.
This manifesto aims to denounce the elimination last year of the Gender Equality Promotion cycle and the planned suppression of the Sociocultural and Tourist Animation Technician (TASOCT) cycle at the IES Veles e Vents in El Grau, as well as the reduction from three to two classrooms for the Microcomputer Systems and Networks cycle at the IES Maria Enríquez.
“"We express our support for the educational communities of these centers and demand an immediate rectification from the Ministry of Education and that they reconsider their position. The disappearance of this training offer would mean a loss of qualified local talent and an added difficulty in filling jobs in key sectors."
Socialist councilor Elena Moncho added that “these cuts by the PP government would mean taking away opportunities, extinguishing vocations, and affecting the future that many people can aspire to”. Moncho emphasized that “Vocational Training is one of the fundamental pillars of our educational system and a key tool for labor insertion and the economic development of our city. However, the recent policies of the PP government are putting this model at risk, with economic cuts and reductions in the offer of cycles, a consequence of evident lack of planning”.
The manifesto also requests the Ministry of Education to increase places in cycles with high demand and waiting lists, as well as the immediate payment of economic arrears owed to the centers, to guarantee their basic functioning.
Furthermore, an urgent investment plan is demanded for the improvement of the infrastructure of the city's Vocational Training centers, ensuring compliance with minimum space requirements and adequate classroom air conditioning to cope with heatwaves.
On the other hand, the urgent resumption of the Plan Edificant works, which have been paralyzed in the city of Gandia, is requested. In the meantime, prefabricated classrooms should be immediately equipped with the necessary ICT material (whiteboards, internet connection, and computers) for teaching. This includes establishing a real execution timeline for the improvements of educational infrastructure in Gandia, avoiding the use of temporary, precarious prefabricated classrooms.
