The Club Atletisme Gandia Alpesa will send its master athletes to Mérida this Saturday, April 11, to compete in the Spanish Half Marathon Championship, a 21-kilometer race featuring a highly demanding course.

The team from Gandia, which previously secured a notable bronze in the Spanish 10K Championship in Ibiza on February 15, now faces a new national challenge. The competition in Mérida is known for its significant elevation changes and almost no flat sections, making it one of the toughest events on the calendar.
The athletes representing the club are Pepe Vidal (M55), Diego Vidal (M50), Desirée Pellicer (F50), Javier Montilla (M50), Jesús Segrelles (M50), and Aitor Cabezas (M45). They will compete in the club classification within the combined M45-M50 categories.
This category grouping presents a disadvantage for Club Atletisme Gandia Alpesa, as most of its members are over 51 years old and will have to compete against younger athletes within the same range. Furthermore, the team's preparation has been hampered by several injuries, with up to four athletes arriving with physical difficulties, which adds extra significance to their participation.
Despite the circumstances, the team's primary goal is not to contend for medals, but rather to aim for a top-seven finish among the best clubs in Spain. This objective reflects the commitment, sacrifice, and passion for athletics that characterize this group of master athletes, who once again will give their all to represent their club and the city of Gandia.
