Adif has tendered for 7,819,645.1 euros the construction of a new traction substation in Gandia, which will enhance the reliability of the Cercanías C1 line.

The Railway Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) has tendered for 7,819,645.1 euros the contract for the construction of a new traction substation in Gandia. This project aims to increase the reliability of the facilities and ensure a better service provision for the C1 line of the Valencia commuter network.
The new substation will provide backup to the existing ones in Cullera and Xeraco, on the Silla-Gandia line. Through this measure, the aim is to optimize the functionality, reliability, and availability parameters of the electrification system, as well as to guarantee the continuity of electrical current in case of failure in a section with high traffic density, thereby reducing the impact on railway operations in the event of an incident.
The projected facility will also supply and reinforce the necessary voltage to the branch line between Gandia Mercancías and Playa de Gandia.
These works are part of the development of the Cercanías Plan for the Valencian Community, being implemented by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. The objective is to improve the railway infrastructure and facilities of this network to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the service, while promoting rail as a reference mode for local transport.
The Gandia substation will be equipped with two traction units, each with a power of 3,000kW. The project also includes the construction of a new underground connection line of 20kV to supply the future substation from the SET Iberdrola Gandia, located on Avenida Valencia.
