This European economic boost will allow Cullera to recover one of its most recognizable heritage symbols. The aid is intended to cover emergency works carried out on the Castle wall, which suffered significant damage due to the 2024 DANA.
The intervention focused on the eastern section and the corner tower of the first barbican, areas particularly affected by the floods. These works, already completed in April 2025, allowed for the stabilization and restoration of a key part of the local historical complex.
The financial support comes through the European Union Solidarity Fund, activated after the consequences of the storm were considered a “serious natural disaster.” This classification opened the door to the mobilization of extraordinary resources to address the effects of extreme weather events across the continent.
The application for these grants was processed after the Valencian Community was declared a disaster zone, which allowed for the channeling of funds to cover urgent actions and expenses arising from the emergency. The European contribution helps to offset the economic effort initially assumed by the Cullera City Council, which had to act quickly to prevent further deterioration of the monument. Furthermore, it reinforces the recovery of local heritage after one of the most intense meteorological episodes recorded in the Valencian Community.
