The historical heritage of Cullera receives a definitive boost to alleviate the severe consequences that the 2024 storm left on its structure. This allocation comes after European regulations classified the effects of the floods in the Valencian Community as a serious natural catastrophe, thus activating extraordinary financing mechanisms for the recovery of damaged infrastructure.
The amount assigned by the Ministry of Finance will compensate for the expenses that the council had to assume initially to guarantee the stability of the monument. The actions focused mainly on the rehabilitation of the eastern curtain wall and the corner tower of the first albacar, emblematic elements that presented significant structural risks due to heavy rains.
Thanks to the speed of the intervention, restoration work concluded last April 2025, and now European funds will serve to alleviate the economic burden that this emergency placed on municipal coffers.
“"This resolution not only represents recognition of the institutional effort made to protect local heritage, but also offers a guarantee to continue advancing in the repair of other infrastructures affected by the storm."
The activation of this funding is the result of a complex administrative process that began in January 2025, when the Government of Spain formally requested European aid after the declaration of the Valencian Community as a disaster zone. Cullera City Council highly values this resolution.
The arrival of these economic resources from the European Union Solidarity Fund reaffirms the support of continental institutions for Valencian municipalities in their recovery after one of the most destructive meteorological episodes in recent history. With this rehabilitation already funded, Cullera Castle regains its splendor and ensures the conservation of one of the most important fortified enclosures in the Ribera Baixa region, consolidating itself once again as one of the main cultural and tourist assets of the area.
