A Vox councillor in the Montserrat City Council, Carlos Martínez Salvador, has handed in his resignation after allegations of abuse became public and a court imposed a restraining order against him.

Martínez Salvador's decision comes after his partner reported him to the Civil Guard on Sunday for alleged abuse, ratifying the complaint in court on Monday. According to the newspaper Levante-EMV, the restraining order prevents him from approaching within 300 meters of the woman or communicating with her.
The Vox party confirmed the resignation via a statement, explaining that the councillor decided to hand in his act due to “the facts known in recent hours and within the framework of the judicial procedure opened in relation to these same facts”.

The decision to hand in the act responds to the will not to harm the political project or the normal functioning of the municipal institution, prioritizing institutional responsibility and the general interest.

Furthermore, Vox stated that Carlos Martínez “has expressed his innocence and absolute respect for the judicial process and his intention to collaborate fully with justice to clarify what happened”.
