The Teatre Principal de Castelló, managed by the Institut Valencià de Cultura, is hosting a unique version of Anton Chekhov's 'Uncle Vanya', presented as a monologue performed by an actor.

The performance will take place on Saturday, April 25 at 7:00 PM. This adaptation, by Simon Stephens and translated by Joan Sellent, is directed by Nelson Valente.
The stage proposal reinterprets Chekhov's original text, published in 1897, moving the action to the present day and outside the context of Tsarist Russia. The play, titled 'Vanya', features a mosaic of characters living together in a stately home far from the big city, where they spend what might be their last summer there.
The actor starring in the play takes on the challenge of portraying the eight main characters, using only the modulation of their voice and movements, without additional scenic elements. Key characters include Sonia and her uncle Ivan (Vanya), dedicated to caring for the family estate; Alexandre, an aging film director; and Helena, his young, newly arrived wife.

The play explores deeply human emotions such as envy, frustration, rage, unrequited desire, or impossible love, maintaining the essence of Chekhov's universe in a contemporary language.

This performance is part of the spring subscription program of the Teatre Principal de Castelló. The last remaining tickets are available for purchase at the box office and through the IVC website.
