The Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) has concluded emergency works on the Magro River, with an investment of 15 million euros, to enhance the safety of the municipalities of Carlet, l’Alcudia, Guadassuar, and Algemesí against potential floods.

The primary objective of these actions is to increase the safety of urban areas against future floods and restore the hydraulic capacity of the Magro River. The works, now in their final phase, were initiated following the damage caused by heavy rainfall on October 29, 2024, which affected infrastructure, caused erosion, and led to overflows.
From the project management, they explain that "the goal has not only been to repair the damage caused by the flood but also to improve the river's hydraulic behavior and reinforce the safety of urban environments against similar episodes."
In Carlet, the river's functionality has been restored by removing an old athletics track built within the public hydraulic domain. The land has been lowered to its natural level, a low-water channel has been constructed, and earthworks have been carried out to regulate the permanent flow. The left bank's slopes have also been profiled. The Carlet City Council collaborated in processing expropriations, and SEIASA in the replacement of paths and conduits.
In l’Alcudia, the right bank has been stabilized with the construction of a 1,000-meter gabion wall. Filling and riprap protection works have also been carried out to improve slope stability and flow transitions. These protections, which did not exist before the storm, have allowed for widening the riverbed and improving its hydraulic capacity.
In Guadassuar, the works focus on the stabilization and repair of the right bank's slopes. After completing the necessary expropriations, clearing, and conditioning work has been carried out. The intervention includes the construction of riprap protections and the installation of Reno mattresses to reinforce slope stability and resistance.
Finally, in Algemesí, the actions are concentrated upstream of the urban area, near the Raval neighborhood. A protective embankment is being built with an earth structure and Reno mattresses at its base to enhance safety against potential overflows. These works are being carried out in coordination with the Algemesí City Council.
