The IES Matilde Salvador in Castellón has resumed classes with the return of teachers to the center, after the suspension of the educational strike. During recess, the teachers staged a protest applause, holding signs with the slogan 'Luchar también es enseñar' (Fighting is also teaching). With this gesture, they sought to raise student awareness about their demands, which they assure will continue to be defended.
Teachers Natalia Medall and María Domingo highlighted the effect of these actions on the mobilizations and their importance in raising student awareness. Medall lamented the lack of progress with the Conselleria (Regional Ministry of Education), pointing out that not achieving their goals is one of the reasons for returning to the center, out of responsibility towards the students and to be able to evaluate them.
Among the main demands of the teaching staff are the defense of public education and education in Valencian, the reduction of student-to-teacher ratios, and the improvement of educational infrastructure. In the case of IES Matilde Salvador, space problems have been denounced due to the coexistence of ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education), Baccalaureate, and Vocational Training in the same center, which hinders the reduction of students per class and access to specific facilities.
Furthermore, concerns have been raised about the high temperatures recorded in some classrooms during the warmer months, a situation affecting both students and teachers. Despite the suspension of the strike, the teaching staff has assured that they will continue to promote actions to demand improvements for the educational community.
