According to CSIF, residents assigned to shifts during strike days are being required to report to the Emergency Service entrance at 8:00 AM instead of the usual 3:00 PM start time. Consequently, they are missing scheduled rotations and training activities in various hospital departments.
The union has pointed out that this situation means MIR doctors lose both the morning of their shift day and the following day due to mandatory rest after continuous duty, significantly impacting their training itinerary. "Residents are personnel in training and cannot systematically become the solution for covering minimum services during a strike," stated CSIF, lamenting that "this situation is directly affecting their learning and the fulfillment of the teaching objectives set for each specialty."
The union has recalled that the measure affects residents from different specialties, including some whose usual activity is not in the Emergency department. They warn that MIR doctors are not completing their scheduled rotations in services such as Cardiology, Traumatology, or Rehabilitation, among others, causing them significant harm. "Each rotation is part of a regulated training program with specific care and teaching objectives, making the lost training time during these weeks difficult to recover and potentially affecting the quality of specialization these professionals receive," added the union.
CSIF has also expressed concern that this organization of minimum services is being applied "solely" at the General University Hospital of Castellón. Therefore, they have urged the hospital management and the Ministry of Health to "review this situation and adopt measures that allow for the guarantee of healthcare while respecting residents' right to receive the training established by their teaching program." "MIR doctors cannot be the main victims of a labor dispute that is not their own," CSIF insisted, emphasizing that "guaranteeing care is essential, but so is protecting the training of future specialists in the public health system."
