The Alzira City Council unanimously approved a resolution this Wednesday demanding that the central government, through the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, immediately restore the frequencies and services that have been cut on the C-2 commuter rail line of Renfe. The line runs through the Ribera Alta region on its route between Xàtiva and València.
The resolution also calls for the implementation of a comprehensive service improvement plan, including an increase in frequencies, punctuality, infrastructure modernization, and the adaptation of schedules to the real needs of users. This request follows a proposal by the association Tyrius, read at the council meeting by its secretary in Alzira, Remei Pau.
Tyrius states that the commuter rail service is an essential infrastructure for the daily mobility of thousands of people in the Ribera and Costera regions, and that the C-2 line is a key tool for ensuring access to employment, education, public services, and the social and economic life of the territory.
The association notes a reduction in frequencies and a decline in the quality of Renfe's service on the C-2 line, causing significant harm to users, particularly students, workers, the elderly, and groups who rely on public transport. Tyrius believes that reducing services on a strategic line represents a setback in sustainable mobility, territorial cohesion, and equal opportunities, contradicting the promotion of efficient and environmentally friendly public transport.
Local Tyrius associations in the Ribera and Costera regions consider it essential for local administrations to join this demand, raising a unified and firm voice in defense of dignified, stable, and efficient public transport for their municipalities. The resolution approved by Alzira City Council calls for a decisive commitment to railway public transport as a fundamental tool for sustainability, territorial integration, and equal opportunities in these regions.
