The initiative, which has received approval from the Ministry of Territorial Policy, seeks to convert these roads, affected by the October 2024 flood, into a space adapted to the current needs of the city. The main objective is to reduce the road-like character of the rounds to give more prominence to pedestrians.
The project includes the creation of rest areas, shaded spaces with trees, and a segregated bike lane that will connect to the railway station. Dual-direction traffic and parking areas will be maintained, while improving the connection between the Raval neighborhood and the urban center, fostering more fluid mobility and the integration of both spaces.
Among the planned actions, the road's grade will be lowered, and the drainage system's capacity will be expanded to increase resilience against intense rainfall episodes. A new sewage network will also be created in sections where it currently does not exist, with the aim of preventing water accumulation.
Furthermore, sidewalks will be renovated to make them accessible, public lighting will be modernized, and a new roundabout will be built in the station area to improve road safety. These improvements respond to a historical demand from residents to dignify a deteriorated area.
“"This project will not only improve mobility and safety but will also open new opportunities for local commerce, housing, and public services, turning the area into a new expansion zone for the city."
