The entity, dependent on the Ministry of Transport, has analyzed the real conditions of the operation required for the track gauge conversion on the section connecting Valencia and Tarragona, scheduled for 2027. The trial took place over a weekend, during nighttime hours and without affecting railway service, on a section of approximately one kilometer between the stations of Torreblanca and Alcalà de Xivert.
The purpose of this test is to validate the work methodology, obtain real execution yields, verify the necessary human and material resources, and analyze the coordination of different teams. Around 15 technicians specialized in operations such as track cleaning, rail displacement, and fastener installation participated, supported by specialized machinery.
Adif continues to advance in contracting the works. It recently tendered for eight million euros a contract for the gauge change of the Castelló-Vinaròs-La Boella converter section. The project includes technical assistance and material supply to adapt the track components.
The new Mediterranean Corridor route is expected to be operational in 2027. Recent actions include the activation of fastener supply for the new track installation between Castelló, Vinaròs, Vandellòs, and La Boella (3.4 million euros) and the tender for the transport of 50,600 tons of ballast (2.4 million).
Furthermore, in November, international gauge tests were carried out on the Castellbisbal-Martorell axis and at the SEAT industrial complex, following investments since 2021 amounting to approximately 60 million euros for track installation and electrification between Castelló and Tarragona.
