The city of Vila-real hosted the Versus Royal 2026 on Saturday, an event that brought together 56 virtual fighting game players at the Teatre Tagoba, setting a precedent for the province of Castellón in the international circuit.

This event, spearheaded by Daniel Segarra and the Sports Department of the Vila-real City Council, transformed the Teatre Tagoba into the nerve center of a day dedicated to fighting video games. The competition stood out for the high level of participants, many of whom are experts in the emerging scene around 2XKO, the new 2v2 team fighting title set in the universe of League of Legends and Arcane.
A total of 56 players registered, coming from various parts of Spain, including the Valencian Community, Barcelona, and even the Canary Islands. The presence of a player from Barcelona who will soon compete in a similar tournament in Japan underscores the quality of the participants.

"Very positively the response received from different parts of Spain."

Daniel Segarra · Versus Royal 2026 Organizer
The main attraction of the championship was the final reward: the winners earned a trip to Nice, France, to participate in EVO, considered the most important tournament in Europe for fighting video games. This incentive positions the Vila-real event on a higher dimension within the national scene, offering access to one of the major events on the European calendar.
Despite the success, Segarra lamented the low participation of players from Vila-real and nearby municipalities, despite acknowledging that there are "very good" local talents. The organization is already working to establish an annual periodicity for the tournament, with the aim of consolidating Vila-real as a reference for eSports and fighting games in the province of Castellón.
