Lucía Gómez García, originally from Castellón, has announced her decision to hang up her boots, concluding a professional career marked by resilience and commitment, especially with Villarreal Women's team. Her career spanned two stints with Villarreal CF (2006-2014 and 2022-2026) and a period with Levante UD (2014-2022), where she achieved significant competitive growth.
“"I will take with me all the good things football has given me, from European and World Cups to playing in the First Division with Villarreal."
Having developed in the yellow academy, the player returned home in 2022 with the goal of fulfilling her dream of playing in the First Division with Villarreal. Despite injuries that tested her mental strength, she never gave up, and on September 30, 2023, she returned to the pitch after more than two years of absence.
For the former player, Villarreal CF represents more than just a club; it's a philosophy of life that teaches values and how to fight for one's goals. Now, with her retirement from professional football, Lucía Gómez will remain involved in sports as a sports psychologist, intending to stay connected to the club and the world that has accompanied her throughout her life.
Meanwhile, Jordi Ferriols' Villarreal Women's team is preparing for the promotion play-offs to the First Division. After the regular season in Primera Federación concludes, the team will compete for one of the four available spots. This Saturday, May 2, 2026, the final matchday will be played simultaneously, and Villarreal will learn their opponent, who will be either Osasuna, Alba FF, or SE AEM.
The semifinals will be played on May 10 (away leg) and May 17 (return leg at the Mini Estadi). Should they win, the promotion final would take place on May 24 (first leg) and May 31 (second leg). The team will play an inconsequential match this Saturday against Real Madrid B at the Ciudad Deportiva de Valdebebas.
