The Burriana Local Police have successfully identified the driver who fled after causing a traffic accident with injuries, thanks to surveillance cameras equipped with license plate readers.

The incident occurred late last month on l’Escorredor street, when a vehicle stopped due to traffic conditions was hit by another vehicle traveling on the same road. As a result of the impact, the driver of the first car suffered various injuries and was left dazed.
After the collision, the person responsible for the accident fled the scene at high speed, without stopping to assist the victim or take appropriate action. Upon the arrival of officers, investigations immediately began to locate the offender.
The investigation was made possible thanks to eyewitness accounts and, crucially, to the traffic video surveillance system equipped with license plate readers that the Burriana City Council is implementing in the municipality. With the help of this technology, officers were able to identify the owner of the vehicle that caused the accident.
In addition to civil liabilities arising from the incident, the driver faces a fine of 200 euros for violating the Road Safety Law and a possible criminal offense, as abandoning the scene of an accident when victims' injuries are serious can carry penalties of up to four years in prison.

"This technological tool is a fundamental resource for victims to exercise their rights and receive corresponding compensation for personal and material damages."

the mayor of Burriana · head of the Citizen Security area
The municipal official added that the investment in technology applied to road safety is yielding direct results in the city, as demonstrated by the resolution of this case, and reiterated the City Council's commitment to continue providing the Local Police with more resources to strengthen security.
