The Almenara City Council held an extraordinary plenary session where the opposition voted against the mayor's confidence motion, leaving her in an interim role and opening a period for a no-confidence motion.

Without surprises in Almenara, the extraordinary plenary session held this Wednesday saw the opposition groups, Compromís and the PP, vote against the confidence motion presented by the mayor and her socialist government team. As a result, the mayor now enters an interim role, and the two opposition parties have 30 days to present a no-confidence motion. Otherwise, the municipal budget for 2026 will be automatically approved.
All indications are that this no-confidence motion will not be presented, as the spokesperson for the Valencianist coalition at the local level has reiterated on more than one occasion that Compromís will not promote it and rules out that option.

"We are facing a government of absolute arrogance from an AliExpress PSOE. The mayor has lost the confidence of the majority of the plenary and, consequently, should resign regardless of whether a no-confidence motion is presented or not."

The popular spokesperson argued that their negative vote is due to a loss of confidence in the government team, as, according to what they stated in the previous plenary, their 'no' to the budgets is because, after presenting a document with proposals and requests regarding the 2025 fiscal year, they received no response. From Compromís, their spokesperson expressed that the town has witnessed the current situation firsthand.
The mayor, for her part, stated that this Thursday has been a very sad and regrettable day, because both Compromís and the PP have decided to paralyze Almenara. She regretted that this situation has been reached despite having negotiated the budgets with both parties. She pointed out that the PP, after the first meeting, did not contact the socialist group, and that Compromís, after accepting more than 80% of their proposals and the creation of four new delegations, linked their negative vote to the desire to be part of the local government board, knowing that, with one year left until the municipal elections, the governing bodies would not be modified.

"Compromís has been trying to reach an agreement with the PP since days after the 2023 municipal elections, always putting obstacles in municipal management. Apparently, they have had no other objective than to obtain the mayor's office. Well, they have it very easy: 30 days to form an alternative to the current socialist government, as I have no attachment to the seat that the residents of Almenara have given me."
