The meeting, held at the Town Hall, served to analyze the current state of healthcare services in Onda and ongoing projects to enhance patient care, considering Onda's role as a service hub for numerous inland municipalities in the province.
The mayor highlighted the collaboration between the City Council and the Conselleria de Sanitat, recalling the council's initiatives, space provisions, and investments to equip Onda with more and better healthcare resources. Ballester emphasized the commitment to a healthcare system that is "close, accessible, and adapted to the real needs of our residents and the entire region."
A key project discussed was the installation of a mammography unit at the Onda I Health Center, currently in the final bidding phase. This will bring early breast cancer detection tests closer to women in Onda and the region, reducing the need for travel and strengthening health prevention. The City Council initiated the equipment acquisition with an investment of 297,000 euros and local business collaboration, while the Conselleria will provide the necessary specialized personnel.
“"Early detection saves lives, and having this resource in Onda will mean a significant improvement for thousands of women who will be able to undergo these tests without leaving their immediate surroundings."
During the meeting, other priority healthcare needs were also raised, including strengthening pediatric services, expanding mental health resources for adults and children, and restoring and increasing specialized medical services in the municipality. Furthermore, the need to continue improving care and emergency resources was stressed to ensure more agile healthcare tailored to the growth of Onda and its area of influence.
