A 76-year-old woman of German nationality died this Wednesday in Xàbia after becoming trapped in an external stairlift used to access her home, situated on a plot with a significant slope.

Sources from emergency services reported that the tragic incident occurred after the woman, a resident of the town for years, returned to her home. The villa, located on the slopes of Montgó, has an external stairlift to facilitate access due to the victim's mobility issues, as she used a wheelchair.
According to initial information, the woman boarded the stairlift platform but became accidentally trapped. The mechanism continued to operate, causing the victim to be repeatedly struck against the villa's facade until the system stopped. Neighbors alerted emergency services upon hearing cries for help.
Local Police of Xàbia, Red Cross, firefighters, a SAMU ambulance, and Civil Guard agents quickly responded to the scene. However, they could only confirm the death of the woman, who was born in Germany in 1950.
The body was transferred for an autopsy around 6 PM, following the judicial order for the body's removal. The investigation to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident has been handed over to the Civil Guard post in Xàbia.
