The Generalitat will invest 2.7 million euros in the comprehensive renovation of Moncofa's sanitation system, a strategic action that will modernize the collector network and pumping station for a more efficient infrastructure.

The project, already tendered, anticipates that works will begin after the summer and extend for a year and a half, with the new facility expected to be operational by the end of 2027. This intervention, promoted by the Generalitat through the Public Entity for Wastewater Sanitation (EPSAR), includes the construction of new collectors and a state-of-the-art pumping station.
This infrastructure will optimize the conduction of wastewater, reduce repumping, and reinforce evacuation capacity during periods of high demand, such as summer or heavy rainfall. The new facility will collect wastewater from Moncofa and direct it to the existing system, pumping flows towards the Xilxes d’Alt station. Additionally, it will incorporate solid pretreatment and odor control systems, improving performance and environmental integration, along with greater energy efficiency.

"This is a key action that will completely transform the municipality's sanitation system, making it more efficient and prepared for growth, especially in the coastal area during the summer."

Vicente Martínez Mus · Third Vice President and Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery
The Third Vice President and Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery, Vicente Martínez Mus, presented the project at the Moncofa Town Hall alongside the mayor, Wenceslao Alós, the regional secretary of Infrastructure, Javier Sendra, and the manager of EPSAR, José Aparicio. The minister explained that this action will eliminate the need for water to pass through four different pumping stations before being treated, which will represent a substantial improvement to the system.
For his part, the mayor of Moncofa, Wences Alós, valued the tender for the Palafangues pumping station and the start of works this year as a historical demand for the municipality. He recalled that, after the wastewater treatment plant near the river became operational in 2015, the sanitation network became unbalanced, with inefficient wastewater routes that required movements from north to south and vice versa, increasing costs, network wear, and overflows at various points, especially on Avel·lí Corma Avenue.
The mayor noted that in 2016, works were carried out to modify the direction of the network in Grau, diverting water towards the EBAR North 2 and 3 stations, although these actions did not completely solve the problem. Meetings with EPSAR allowed for the promotion of this new station, which will collect wastewater within the municipality itself and send it directly to the treatment plant, resulting in significant economic savings and reducing network wear.
