The Moncofa City Council has once again joined the commemoration of International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day, celebrated on June 28th, with various awareness and visibility actions for the community. These activities will conclude with a festive day open to all citizens on July 4th at the beach.
As a demonstration of the municipal commitment to diversity, equality, and respect, the City Council raised the Pride flag on the balcony of the consistorial building, coinciding with the ordinary plenary session. Pride flags have also been raised on all the town's beaches.
The Councilor for Equality, María Teresa Alemany, highlighted that “Pride Day is a day for the reivindication of the rights and freedom of all people to live and love as they wish, but also an opportunity to continue advancing as a society in respect and coexistence”. In this regard, she stated that “Moncofa wants to be an open, inclusive, and welcoming town”.
The municipality's commitment to promoting equality, inclusion, and the defense of the community's rights has also recently been recognized with the 'LGTBIQ+ Free Space' distinction, awarded by the General Directorate of Diversity of the Ministry of Housing, Employment, Youth, and Equality.
The program for Pride Day will culminate on Saturday, July 4th, with the celebration of 'Moncofa, el nostre orgull 2026'. Events will begin at 6:00 PM in the Na Violant d’Hongria square with the inauguration of the exhibition 'Diversity in capital letters', a traveling exhibition promoted by the Provincial Council aimed at raising awareness about the importance of inclusion and respect for diversity through a journey across the different letters that make up the LGTBIQ+ acronym.
Subsequently, the celebration will move to the Cucs square, where at 7:00 PM the LGTBIQ+ march will take place, followed by the opening speech by writer and journalist specialized in diversity José Mola, and the reading of the institutional manifesto by the mayor, Wences Alós Valls, and council members. The day will conclude with performances by Picos Pardos, with La Villaexcusa and Papo Princess, starting at 8:00 PM.
Alemany has invited citizens and visitors to participate in this celebration that combines reivindication with a festive, participatory, and respectful atmosphere.
