The situation of the Rayo Vallecano coach is similar to that experienced by his predecessor at Villarreal CF, who also had to keep his future secret until the Yellow Submarine secured qualification for the Champions League. Now, the new coach faces media pressure while his team seeks permanence in La Liga and competes in the UEFA Europa Conference League final.
The club from La Plana Baixa and the coach have a preliminary agreement for the next two seasons, with an optional third, starting from July 1st. However, it has been agreed not to formalize the deal until Rayo Vallecano has mathematically secured its permanence and concluded its participation in the European competition, the final of which will be played on Wednesday, May 27th, in Leipzig against Crystal Palace.
“"I don't think the Leipzig final will influence my future at all. I don't operate within those parameters. It's a decision that I believe is clear on my part and well thought out. It's not appropriate to talk about it now, only to say that I am tremendously happy right now."
The coach acknowledged that he has already made a decision about his future but emphasized the importance of focusing on Rayo Vallecano's current objectives. He stressed that the match against Girona is as important, if not more so, than the Conference League semi-final, as it will secure their mathematical salvation.
Furthermore, Ilias Akhomach, on loan from Villarreal CF to Rayo Vallecano, is currently dealing with physical issues. Although he will not play in the upcoming league match, the coach hopes he will be available for the Leipzig final, despite his muscle injury.
