Juan Bautista Carda Castelló, a professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Universitat Jaume I (UJI), has been honored with the National Award for Scientific Trajectory in Ceramic and Glass Materials 2026, recognizing his life dedicated to innovation in the ceramic sector.

Born in Vila-real, Carda is a leading figure in the field of ceramic and glass materials. His career has focused on research, innovation, and knowledge transfer, collaborating closely with the business community in the province of Castellón.
Since 2012, he has directed the Ciutat de Vila-real Ceramic Innovation Chair, promoted by the UJI and the City Council, from where he has fostered initiatives for dissemination and connection between academia and the ceramic industry, establishing Vila-real as a hub for innovation.
The award, presented as part of the SOCIEMAT-ACERS Spain 2026 National Award, highlights his research in solid-state chemistry, materials science, and ceramic materials.
Holding a degree and doctorate in Chemical Sciences, Carda has served as an associate professor and is now a full professor at the UJI. His scientific output includes over 350 publications, seven patents, and the supervision of more than 30 doctoral theses, establishing him as a prominent researcher in new materials and advanced ceramics.
The Vila-real City Council has congratulated the scientist, emphasizing that the recognition is a source of pride for the city and enhances the profile of local talent and the importance of Castellón in ceramic research.
This award adds to other recent distinctions, such as the Trajectory Award from the Globalis Foundation in 2024, which recognized his contribution to ceramic innovation and the link between science, business, and the regional economy.
