The events occurred late last month on l’Escorredor street, when a car stopped due to traffic conditions was hit by another vehicle traveling on the same road. As a result of the impact, the driver of the first vehicle suffered several injuries and was left shaken.
After the collision, the person responsible for the accident performed an evasive maneuver and left the scene at high speed, without stopping to assist the victim or carry out the relevant procedures. Upon the arrival of police officers, immediate investigations began to find the whereabouts of the offender.
The investigation was made possible thanks to eyewitness testimonies and, decisively, to the traffic video surveillance system equipped with license plate readers that the city council of the capital of La Plana Baixa is implementing in the municipality. With the help of this technology, agents have been able to identify the owner of the offending vehicle.
In addition to the civil liabilities arising from the incident, the driver faces a fine of 200 euros for violating the Road Safety Law and a possible crime. It should be remembered that, in situations where victims' injuries are serious, abandoning the scene of an accident can constitute a crime punishable by up to four years in prison.
“"This technological tool is a fundamental resource so that victims can exercise their rights and receive corresponding compensation for personal and material damages."
The municipal official added that the investment in technology applied to road safety is yielding direct and effective results in Burriana, as demonstrated by the resolution of this case. Therefore, the City Council will continue to provide the Local Police with the best means to guarantee a safer city for everyone.
