Construction work on the Garden of the Thousand and One Nights project is progressing in the vicinity of the Castle of Onda, aiming to transform this historic area into a large green space integrated into the urban center. The project has an investment of 2.69 million euros from Next Generation EU funds, the largest European aid obtained by the municipality to date.
The mayor of Onda, Carmina Ballester, and the government sub-delegate in Castellón, Antonia García Valls, have visited the site to assess the execution status of a project that seeks to enhance the town's tourist, heritage, and landscape appeal.
The Garden of the Thousand and One Nights represents the first major action of the so-called Green Lung of Onda, a municipal strategy aimed at expanding green areas and improving the connection between historical heritage and natural spaces.
The intervention includes the creation of a scenic route around the fortress, with landscaped areas and a panoramic walkway that will complete the perimeter itinerary of the Castle and offer new perspectives of the city and its surroundings.
In addition to landscape adaptation, the project includes recovery actions for historical elements such as the Albarrana Tower and a section of the Carlist wall, with the aim of highlighting the defensive heritage linked to the Castle of Onda. The initiative seeks to integrate heritage conservation with new spaces for public and tourist use.
According to information provided by the town hall, the work is in an advanced stage of execution. The progressive installation of the metal structure for the future walkway and the initial plantings that will shape the park are currently underway. In parallel, terrain conditioning, slope stabilization, drainage systems, lighting, and irrigation networks have already been implemented to ensure accessibility and landscape integration of the complex.
