The Senate has approved a proposal from the Popular Group to modify the Coastal Law, including the protection of maritime villages and the halting of boundary surveys, with support from PP, Junts, and PNV.
The modification of the Coastal Law has once again been the focus of political debate due to its impact on the coastal municipalities of the province of Castellón. The initiative, presented by the Popular Group, aims to strengthen the protection of maritime villages, halt boundary surveys, and open a dialogue process for a new Coastal regulation.
The proposal received the support of PP, Junts, and PNV, while PSOE and Sumar voted against it. As the PP recalls, the reform still needs to be processed by the Congress of Deputies.
“
"PSOE and Sumar know they would lose the vote in Congress, and that's why they have held up the democratic debate on the law for 2 years, making it clear that the protection of maritime villages will only be possible when the ballot boxes bring about a change of government."
“
"Although in coastal towns PSOE wants to appear to protect the villages, the reality is the opposite; in the places where key decisions are made, whether in the Valencian Courts or Congress, they are against it."
The plenary session was attended by representatives from associations and town councils from various parts of the Castellón coast, including the mayors of Oropesa, Rafael Albert; Xilxes, Ismael Minguet; Moncofa, Wences Alós Valls; and the councilwoman from Cabanes, Ana Obiol, who followed the debate on a reform that particularly affects coastal municipalities.
