The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated 24.6 million euros in the Generalitat Valenciana budget for hydraulic infrastructure and irrigation improvements in the province of Castellón, with most of the projects planned for subsequent years.

The Ministry of Agriculture, through the General Directorate of Water and Rural Development, has included a total of 24.6 million euros in the Generalitat Valenciana budget project for investments in hydraulic infrastructure, ravine channeling, and improvements in irrigation in the province of Castellón. These funds are intended to finance about fifteen actions distributed over annual installments until 2029, with the majority not to be executed this year, according to the Ministry's estimates.
The accounts of the General Directorate of Water and Rural Development distribute the bulk of the investment in later annual installments, especially in 2028, which concentrates more than 12 million euros, nearly half of the global budget. Added to this are 1.9 million planned for 2027 and another 4 million for 2029, mainly corresponding to multi-year projects for improving hydraulic infrastructure and modernizing irrigation systems.
The actions with the highest economic volume are also those with the most extended execution calendar. The highest investment corresponds to the modernization of Pinella 3 by the Irrigation Community Cota 100 of Vila-real, with 5.76 million euros. However, for 2026, only 154,800 euros are allocated, while another 200,000 euros are reserved for 2027, and the bulk of the action, 5.4 million euros, is postponed to 2028.
A similar situation occurs with the works of the Barranco de la Sotà in Benicarló, with a total investment of 5.6 million euros. Of this amount, only 100,000 euros are budgeted for 2026 and another 100,000 euros for 2027, while 1.4 million will be executed in 2028 and the largest portion, 4 million euros, is moved to 2029.
The rehabilitation of a reservoir in Sant Jordi, with 2.15 million euros, constitutes an exception among the high-value projects, as it concentrates practically all the investment in the next fiscal year: 2.05 million in 2026 and the remaining 100,000 euros in 2027.
Several actions related to the modernization and sustainability of irrigation also show clearly deferred execution. The solar pumping and head reservoir accumulation project for the Irrigation Community of the María Cristina reservoir, budgeted at 1.55 million euros, only has 50,000 euros for 2026, while 200,000 euros are reserved for 2027 and 1.3 million are left for 2028. Similarly, the installation of solar pumps and interconnection pipelines between irrigation communities in Vall d'Uixó, with a total investment of 1.45 million, will receive barely 50,000 euros in 2026, another 200,000 euros in 2027, and 1.2 million in 2028.
The same pattern is repeated in the implementation of renewable energies for the General Irrigation Community of Almenara, which totals 1.45 million euros distributed as 50,000 euros in 2026, 300,000 euros in 2027, and 1.1 million in 2028; as well as in the photovoltaic installations at the irrigation heads of Solades, Cariñena, and Cap de Terme of the Irrigation Community of Vila-real, with 1.36 million euros, divided into 50,000 euros in 2026, 300,000 euros in 2027, and 1.01 million in 2028.
For its part, the actions to improve water and energy efficiency in the Irrigation Community of Almassora, with a total investment of 1.18 million euros, reserve barely 50,000 euros for 2026, while 500,000 euros will be executed in 2027 and 630,000 euros in 2028.
In contrast to these multi-year investments, the budget includes several actions whose financing is concentrated entirely in 2026. This is the case for the improvement of the hydraulic network infrastructure in Canet lo Roig, Traiguera, and la Jana, with 850,000 euros; the research well, electromechanical equipment, and conduction to the municipal reservoir of Benafigos, with 1.61 million euros; and a similar action in Vistabella del Maestrat, endowed with 1.3 million. The drafting of four irrigation modernization projects in the province of Castellón, with 103,320 euros, and the drafting of two irrigation infrastructure improvement projects in the province of Castellón, with 235,670 euros, will also be fully executed in the next fiscal year.
Among the lower-cost actions are the research well to guarantee supply in Xodos, budgeted at 18,510 euros, and the renovation of the drinking water supply between the maritime village and the urban center of Xilxes, which has barely 910 euros allocated. Both items are planned for full execution during 2026.
