The Burriana City Council has formalized the reception of the material and personal legacy of Don Vicente Enrique y Tarancón, a key step for the creation of the future Cardinal Tarancón Museum in the town.

The signing of the transfer act between the city's mayor and the representative of the Cardinal's family will allow the council of the capital of La Plana Baixa to assume the management, custody, and protection of a collection of pieces of great historical and sentimental value. These will form the core of the future Cardinal Tarancón Museum.
The transfer, which is free of charge and will have an initial validity of fifteen renewable years, responds to the Cardinal's express wishes that his legacy rest in the Church of El Salvador, the temple where he was baptized and ordained bishop. Among the objects that pass into municipal custody are the crozier, the episcopal ring of enameled ivory with the image of the Virgin of Mercy, his first pectoral from 1946, and the homily delivered in San Jerónimo el Real during the enthronement of H.M. King Juan Carlos I.
Likewise, the legacy includes objects from his daily life and international recognitions, such as the rosary given by John Paul II, his typewriter, and even his ID card. The City Council commits, through this document, to guarantee the security, preservation, and restoration, if necessary, of all the pieces, which will be located in the Racó de l’Abadia under professional technical criteria.

"This legacy is the testimony of a key man in the history of Spain who always carried Burriana in his heart; today we fulfill his will that Burriana owed for more than 25 years, when the building was finished in 2001, ensuring that his memory is accessible to all residents."

The signing of this act represents a new step after the collaboration agreement with the Diocese of Segorbe-Castellón and the investment of 260,000 euros already approved by the plenary for the adaptation of the museum rooms. With the upcoming arrival of these personal assets, the “Permanent Museographic Collection of Cardinal Tarancón” is one step closer to acquiring its definitive dimension, which will unite the parish heritage with the biography of Burriana's most universal figure.

"We have unpublished documents and objects that narrate the Spanish transition from a unique perspective. Our goal is for the Cardinal Tarancón Museum to be a first-rate cultural reference that consolidates Burriana as an authentic City of Museums."
