The Burriana City Council is reinforcing its commitment to the environmental awareness of young people through the educational program "The Water Course". This initiative, developed by Facsa, provides didactic and innovative resources to the school community. During April and May, a total of 334 primary and special education students from ten local educational centers are participating free of charge in these awareness-raising workshops.
The sessions, held at Facsa's educational facility, last approximately two and a half hours. Schoolchildren acquire knowledge about the natural and urban water cycles. The activities are characterized by their technological and playful nature, incorporating pedagogical innovation tools such as gamification, augmented reality applications, and the use of tablets to enhance motivation and the retention of complex content.
This edition places a special focus on the Protected Landscape of the Millars River Mouth, an area of significant ecological value. Through dynamic talks, experimental workshops simulating water pollution, purification, and regeneration processes, and guided visits to the entity's Control Center, children understand the impact of their daily habits on nature, such as the environmental cost of flushing wet wipes down the toilet.
Participating educational centers include CEIP Pare Vilallonga, CEIP Penyagolosa, CEIP Cardenal Tarancón, Colegio Ntra. Sra. de la Consolación, Colegio Salesiano San Juan Bautista, Colegio Illes Columbretes, CEIP Novenes de Calatrava, Colegio Villa Fátima, and the CEE Pla Hortolans.
The Councilor for the Environment, Noelia Peris, stated that “the students and schools of the city will have complementary and attractive tools that transform theory into a practical and sensory experience. Teaching children the value of water and the need to protect our immediate environment, like the Millars river mouth, is sowing the foundation for responsible citizenship firmly committed to the environmental sustainability of Burriana”.
