The Burriana City Council has begun proceedings to modify the General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU) with the aim of designating the necessary land for a new wastewater pumping station (EBAR).

This new infrastructure, which will serve the future treatment plant, seeks to put an end to the recurrent bad odors affecting the Serratella area. The current facility, located at the beginning of Camí Serratella, lacks the sealing system found in modern installations, causing disturbances for residents, a long-standing demand from the local community.
The urban modification will affect a vacant plot of 486 m² adjacent to the existing facility. This land, currently classified as urban land, will be reclassified as an 'equipment' area, thus integrating it into the urban infrastructure-service endowment network of Burriana's General Plan.
The current treatment plant, built in 1982, has become obsolete. The new plant, located in Camí La Pedrera, represents an investment of approximately 38 million euros by the Generalitat, marking a turning point for Burriana's environmental and urban future. It will feature state-of-the-art technology, including water reuse for agricultural irrigation. Once completed, the old Serratella facilities will be demolished.
The Councilor for Urbanism, Mario Trullen, highlighted that this technical and administrative step is vital to definitively resolve a historical problem of bad odors and breakdowns that the residents of Serratella have been suffering.
