The signing of the transfer agreement between the mayor and the family representative, Vicenta María Enrique-Tarancón Gallego, will allow the council to assume the management, custody, and protection of a collection of pieces of great historical and sentimental value. This free transfer will have an initial validity of fifteen years, extendable.
The main objective is for this legacy to remain in Burriana, thus fulfilling the cardinal's expressed wish that his belongings rest in the El Salvador church, where he was baptized and ordained bishop.
Among the most notable pieces that will pass into municipal custody are the crozier, the ivory episcopal ring enameled with the image of the Mare de Déu de la Misericòrdia, his first pectoral from 1946, and the homily delivered during the enthronement of Juan Carlos I. In addition, other objects from his daily life and international recognitions are included, such as the rosary given by John Paul II, his typewriter, and his national identity document.
The pieces will be located in the Racó de l’Abadia, where the City Council commits to guaranteeing their security, preservation, and restoration if necessary, following professional technical criteria.
This signing represents a new advance in the museum project, following the collaboration agreement with the Diocese of Segorbe-Castellón and the investment of 260,000 euros already approved by the plenary session to adapt the museum rooms. With the incorporation of these personal assets, the permanent collection dedicated to the cardinal is closer to completing its definitive dimension, uniting parish heritage and biographical memory of one of the most relevant figures linked to the city.
“"This legacy allows us to fulfill a long-awaited wish in the city, in addition to ensuring that his memory remains accessible to residents."
“"The arrival of these pieces will allow the initiation of museographic design with unpublished materials and objects that help explain key episodes of Spanish history from a unique perspective."
The Culture councilor has also highlighted the aspiration to turn the future museum into a cultural reference that strengthens Burriana's projection as a City of Museums.
