The decision by the mayor, from the PSPV-PSOE party, was made public this Thursday during the municipal corporation's plenary session. This announcement comes after the Partido Popular and Compromís voted against the accounts for the current fiscal year, with negotiations with the Valencianist party failing to progress.
“"I will submit to a vote of confidence linked to the budget, because if I am the problem, they have me at their disposal."
Given this scenario, the mayor explained that she will convene an extraordinary plenary session this Friday for next Wednesday. In this key session, both the vote of confidence and the municipal budget will be put to a vote, which will determine the continuity of the current governing team or the opening of a new political scenario in the municipality.
From the opposition, positions have remained firm. A spokesperson for the Partido Popular recalled that their party had already presented a document with proposals in October 2025, which, in their opinion, should have been executed. They emphasized that contacts with the governing team have been scarce and no solid agreement has been reached, leading to a negative vote that reflects a lack of confidence in the proposed economic management.
For its part, a representative of Compromís in Almenara also justified their group's rejection of the 2026 accounts, focusing on the development of political negotiations throughout the legislature. They highlighted that, after three years in office, this last year was the first in which real contacts occurred between the different parties, opening the door to a possible agreement. However, their support was conditioned on greater involvement in municipal management, including assuming responsibilities and participating in the local government board. The governing team's refusal to allow their entry into this body was decisive for their negative vote.
The mayor responded to these criticisms by defending that there were broad points of coincidence with the proposals put forward by the Partido Popular and regretted the lack of progress after a contact in February. Regarding Compromís, she detailed that several meetings were held where it was made clear from the outset that the structure of municipal bodies would not be modified, a condition that would initially have been accepted. However, in later stages of the negotiation, the demand to be part of the local government board was raised again, which the executive considers unacceptable, interpreting this request as a search for power quotas rather than a contribution to the general interest.
In parallel to the political debate, the mayor warned of the economic consequences that the non-approval of the budget could entail. She recalled that non-compliance with the spending rule would force the City Council to adopt adjustment measures. As explained, the municipal comptroller has already warned of this situation within the framework of the Financial Economic Plan, which implies that, without new approved accounts, the council would be forced to make cuts or introduce limitations on public spending.
