The province of Castellón is included in the 2026 budgets for Environment, Infrastructure, Territory, and Recovery with actions linked to mobility, environmental protection, and conservation of natural spaces. The third vice president and minister, Vicente Martínez Mus, presented in Les Corts accounts aimed at completing the reconstruction after the October 2024 floods and moving towards a Valencian Community that is "more resilient, safe, sustainable, and better connected".
The Third Vice Presidency will manage a budget of 1.1 billion euros in 2026, a figure similar to the previous year. Added to this amount is the activity of the instrumental public sector attached to the department, comprising entities such as Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana, the Public Entity for Wastewater Treatment, Aerocas, or Vaersa, with a combined budget of 945.4 million euros. In total, the economic volume exceeds 2 billion euros.
Martínez Mus explained that the last 18 months have been marked by the recovery of infrastructure and territory affected by the floods. In this context, he pointed out that "now is the time to consolidate that work through investments that allow us to face future extreme episodes with greater guarantees".
Almost half of the department's budget is allocated to post-DANA recovery. Specifically, the accounts allocate 445 million euros for reconstruction and recovery actions, an amount that is added to the 511 million budgeted in 2025. "The objective is to build a better-prepared Valencian Community against extreme weather phenomena and adapted to the effects of climate change," the vice president highlighted. Martínez Mus also noted the allocation planned to cover the 80,000 euro aid payment to families of victims who died in the DANA.
Furthermore, the budget distributes the remaining resources among the Conselleria's main management areas, with 257 million euros for land transport infrastructure, 187.5 million for transport and logistics, 132 million for environmental quality and education, and 108.7 million for the natural environment and animal welfare.
In terms of infrastructure, the accounts include actions for the conservation and improvement of the regional road network and advance in the drafting of new strategic actions. Among these is the new rapid access road connecting to the beach of Almassora, an infrastructure planned within the department's mobility strategy.
The budget also reinforces the protection and recovery of natural heritage through investments in protected areas and environmental restoration actions. In the case of Castellón, 490,000 euros are allocated to the brigades of the Columbretes Islands Natural Reserve, one of the most unique natural sites in the province.
Forest fire prevention is also among the budget's priorities. Martínez Mus explained that this line "constitutes another of the budget's priorities, with an allocation of 107 million euros to reinforce surveillance, maintenance, and improvement of forest infrastructure".
The budget also includes new investments for the modernization of regional ports, the development of railway and transport infrastructure, and lines dedicated to research on natural disasters and climate change adaptation, with the aim of improving the territory's response capacity to future extreme episodes.
