The town of Oropesa del Mar is preparing to be the epicenter of European cycling tourism this weekend, with the celebration of the sixth edition of the SCOTT Mediterranean Epic Gran Fondo. More than 3,000 participants, from 14 different countries, will face a demanding challenge in the province of Castellón.
The organization is finalizing preparations to welcome the entire peloton on what is expected to be an exciting day. The event offers three different distances, adapted to all audiences, consolidating itself as a key date in the cycling calendar.
“"Having a legend of Spanish cycling is a true honor and a profile that fits the technical and charismatic nature of the event."
The race maintains its traditional distances in 2026, allowing each rider to choose the route that best suits their characteristics. Starting and finishing in Oropesa del Mar, participants can choose between three challenges: from the 196 kilometers of the Gran Fondo to the shortest distance of 110 kilometers.
The routes will cross 13 municipalities in the province, including Orpesa, Cabanes, Vilanova d’Alcolea, Torre Endomenech, Sarratella, Albocàsser, Ares del Maestrat, Benassal, Culla, Villafranca del Cid, La Torre d’en Besora, Sierra Engarcerán, and Vall d’Alba. These towns will provide the perfect setting for the cyclists to enjoy the territory.
The Gran Fondo distance, with 196 kilometers and 3,200 meters of positive elevation gain, is the ultimate challenge. The medium distance, 160 kilometers and 2,520 meters of elevation gain, offers a high-intensity alternative. Finally, the shortest route, 110 kilometers and 1,625 meters of elevation gain, focuses on technique and enjoying the surroundings, capturing the essence of the roads of Maestrat and Plana Alta.
The entire organizing team has worked intensely to ensure that the route is, once again, a showcase of the best roads in the province, demonstrating the territory's potential for cycling within the Castellón Cycling project of the Diputación de Castellón. The event will conclude with the traditional post-finish line party in the gardens of Oropesa del Mar, where cyclists can celebrate their achievement.
