This reorganization, managed by the company Autos Mediterráneo, foresaw an annual contribution from the Generalitat of 1,853,830 euros to compensate for public service losses. Additionally, it included modifications to routes and frequencies to optimize services and reduce travel times.
Among the most notable planned changes, route 1 (Castellón-Vinaròs) was expected to cut ten minutes off the journey by eliminating stops in Benicàssim, Oropesa, Ribera de Cabanes, and Peñíscola. Route 2, connecting Castellón and Oropesa during the school year, would also remove stops in Torreblanca and Ribera de Cabanes, although these services remain operational.
Routes 3 and 4, between Castellón and Benicàssim, would improve frequency and adapt the coastal route due to the future extension of the TRAM from Grao. A new route 5 was also planned along the CV-149 and urbanizations. The reorganization also aimed to merge services between Torreblanca and Alcalà de Xivert, destined for Torrenostra and Alcossebre, into a single route 6, connecting these four residential areas year-round.
Finally, the line connecting to the airport would be divided into two distinct branches: one from Torreblanca and another from Cabanes. However, all these changes are still pending official activation by the Generalitat, despite being approved twelve months ago.
“"The new model aimed to reach 939,000 annual passengers and generate approximately 1.3 million euros in ticket sales revenue, an amount that would be added to the regional contribution to cover the total service cost of 3.1 million euros."
Sources from the concessionaire company, Autos Mediterráneo, have stated they are unaware of when the planned modifications will come into effect. The company daily updates its website with all information regarding schedules and itineraries for the bus lines it manages.
This delay is not an isolated incident. A similar situation occurred with the line between Castellón and l'Alcora, whose new contract with the company Autobuses Furió came into force in March of last year, several months after its award and once maintenance and structural improvement works on the CV-190 road were completed.
